The following is a post from one of our valued guests who recently visited Morzine and took part in a Trail Race.
I have recently returned from an amazing holiday at the Aiglon in Morzine. The town was absolutely buzzing with life with all the lifts, restaurants, bars, the pool, shops and even the zip-wire and luge lively with customers. Although there were lots of people about, there was safe distancing and face masks, and clearly a lot thought had gone into making activities safe for everyone!
The Morzine-Avoriaz office had worked closely with the local agencies and managed to be one of the few companies to get permission to host a trail running race, The Hauts Forts. This was my first, but definitely not last, trail running event! The sun shone and there were four events which took participants from Morzine to Avoriaz up and down a range of mountains including a trip to the Swiss border. The scenery was exceptional and the organisation, course staff and volunteers were amazing. If you are considering doing any trail race in Europe then I thoroughly recommend this one in Morzine – traildeshautsforts.com.
If you prefer following marked running trails from Morzine and the surrounding areas then check out the Morzine Mountain running group.
Morzine offers a range of well sign-posted trails which are graded from green to black with several additional challenges such as the “Vertical kilometre” and ultra-running opportunities. The app has a map facility which shows you where you are in case you manage to get off the route. This is perfect for getting you started with trail running or giving you much greater challenges if you are experienced.
I will definitely be back for the next Hauts Forts and maybe I will even challenge myself with a longer distance the next time.
