After a pleasant flight with Aer Lingus we arrived at Geneva airport where we were met by the drivers from Skiidy Gonzales. The transfer was a very scenic drive and just over an hour later we arrived at our destination. The town of Morzine nestles in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. On arrival at our accommodation, L’Aiglon de Morzine, we were allocated our apartments and they didn’t disappoint – lovely living rooms and kitchens with all mod cons, spacious bedrooms all ensuite, all with amazing views of the mountains. There was time for a quick look around and then dinner and a few drinks before an early night.
The next morning fresh bread and pastries were delivered for breakfast. After that it was time to head for the hills guided by the wonderful Marie Laure Page. We spent the whole day surrounded by stunning scenery trekking through the Alps. Marie Laure taught us about the flora, fauna and the ways of the locals. She was a mine of information. After a long day it was time to head back for a well-earned drink and a lovely meal in Le Tyrolien restaurant where the cheese wheel is a must.
The next morning it was off again in the opposite direction for another day hiking. A very different walk but no less enjoyable, with fast flowing rivers and spectacular waterfalls – we even managed to have a swim in the local lake.
Our third day’s walk was a short walk through the local forest trails and back through small local villages where Marie Laure’s local knowledge was invaluable. The weather was a little wet but luckily there was a drying room back at base. That night we had a lovely BBQ on the deck at the rear of the L’Aiglon (catered by Chez Toi who also provided packed lunches each day for our walks) – a fitting finish to a wonderful break.
Our last morning was spent relaxing in the gym and sauna (all part of the apartment complex).
The L’Aiglon Apartments in Morzine were the perfect location for a walking break – close to the mountain trails yet in a working town with restaurants, shops and bars all within a short walk. All in all a thoroughly relaxing holiday from start to finish!
